Climate Trolls

I was reading and participating in a heated discussion on global warming and climate change, when someone posted a definition of climate troll.

Climate Troll
/klīmit trōl/
Noun

One who purposely and deliberately starts or continues an argument about climate and environmental issues in a manner which attacks others without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. They will create such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks with no substance or relevance to back them up as well as straw man arguments, which they use to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue. Easily identifiable by their use of “talking points” that have been thoroughly dis-proven, or are based on outdated information.

The reasons for a Climate troll’s behavior remains a mystery to the scientific community. Self-amusement, corporate financing, poor education, and in rare cases mental instability may be the driving causes. However, some have speculated that this is simply the natural human reaction to fear and destroy ideas that are too complex to easily understand.

So basically, according to his man’s definition,  anyone who disagrees with him, or who is misinformed is a climate troll, if it escalates into an argument.

And we wonder why we cannot have productive discussions about important issues.
